Football, ZX sneakers, and Overkill – many of these have been with us for years. With Mission ZX: Away from Home, we’re now launching a project that brings all these elements together. In collaboration with adidas, we’re releasing the adidas ZX 8000 Overkill and the adidas ZX 9000 Overkill on May 30, 2026 – exclusively at Overkill in Berlin & Cologne (in-store), via online-raffle and remaining stock online at the webshop.

The idea behind the project was inspired by the aesthetics of the German national football team’s classic home and away jerseys. Both shoes are deliberately kept predominantly white, incorporating the respective jersey colors only in small details and accents. The adidas ZX 9000 draws inspiration from the home jersey, while the adidas ZX 8000 incorporates elements of the away jersey.
It was important to us that the theme didn’t feel too overt. Not fully dyed football shoes, but two wearable adidas ZX models that convey their inspiration more subtly.
The adidas ZX 9000 also serves as a small bridge to our ā€œHome Gameā€ project from 2024. However, we didn’t want to create a reissue; instead, we wanted to further develop the idea on a different model and with new details.

THE DETAILS:
For the adidas ZX 8000 Away, we combined pinstripe mesh with premium suede and nubuck overlays. The adidas ZX 9000 Home blends classic original ZX materials with pinstripe mesh, reflective details on the heel cage, gradient stripes, and a lenticular woven tongue label featuring the Overkill AOP.

Both models come with:
- Overkill branding on the tongue and heel
- custom-designed insoles
- various laces and lace tags
- kids’ versions of both models

THE GROUNDSMAN IS BACK:
A project like this naturally calls for the right campaign. That’s why our CEO, Marc, returns as ā€œThe Groundsmanā€.
Joining him this time are Thomas Müller as himself, Nura as the mastermind, and Kai Pflaume as the private jet captain.
The whole thing has landed somewhere between a football movie, chaos, and classic Overkill humor, so pretty much exactly where we wanted it to be.

THE RELEASE EVENT:
We also wanted to do more than just a sneaker drop for the release. That’s why there will be an event in Berlin featuring:
- Vintage football exhibition
- Merch
- Several workshops & goodies

The fact that the project is launching just in time for the World Cup makes the whole thing even more special for us. Soccer culture has always been part of Overkill. With Mission ZX: Away from Home, we were able to fully explore the theme this time around.
